Mother's Day Practice @ Pev's (May 8, 2011)

So over the past weekend Rockin’ Cocks and RC Rev had team practice at Pev’s Paintball in Aldie, VA. This weekend was a chance for a few to kick off the cobwebs and others to spend time with their momma’s. The weather was great and the field was great as usual and the layout is still the 2011 NPPL Chicago, which confidently saying RC has on lock seeing as we never lost a game all day. We also had a few new peeps out there this weekend.

The first part of practice was Rockin’ Cocks versus RC Rev. RC Rev consisted of Scott and a few new players this weekend, Tony, Dana and team frequent flyer Bob! Rockin’ Cocks consisted of Amish, O, EZ and I. The games for the most part were pretty even and players swapped in and out of both teams all day, we also picked up the occasional walk-on to make 5 on 5 and we even played a game with J-Rab of team Russian Legion/Arsenal. He was a little shocked that we all played pump, but we showed him a thing or two.

We also played a few teams that were there such, as Iron Legion and team Swag. Iron Legion would only play us if we picked up two other players so we did and we played them 7 on 5. We rolled them convincingly finishing with 3 up, after that they refused to play us anymore. We also played 3 games with team Swag. Game 1 was close and it ended with a 2 on 2. O and I were the only ones left for RC, I was in the snake (S1) and O was on the d-side. Swag had S3 and the 50 roller. The roller looked away and I took off and ran train on the snake guy, right as I shoot him, the roller looked back and bounced me, and a second later shoot me. O then shot the roller and that was game one. We rolled Swag in game 2, 5 up and probably less than a minute. Game 3 came down to a 3 on 2, with EZ and me being the only RC guys left. Swag had the snake corner, there 50 wedge, and the d-side cube. I was stuck in S1 and EZ was in either D1 or D2. For some reason the snake corner looked away and I got into S3, I shot the 50 wedge and then somehow EZ called himself out. It came down to a 2 on 1 at this point, they didn’t know where I was until the corner saw me. For some reason, the cube tried to fill over and I shot him, then the corner tried to run me down, but between me shooting him and him running out of bounds he was out. RC would finish with 3 wins straight over Swag.

The last game of the day was RC versus RC Rev, it was a 3 on 4. The game started off with a clean break-out for both teams, however RC Rev pushed the field a little more and had the 50 wedge pretty quick. Amish tried to end that, however he bunkered the wrong Wedge, but O finished off Scott. EZ then filled it and shot O, so it came down to a 3 on 1. EZ filled our D1 and Dana moved to our snake brick, Tony stayed in the snake corner on their side. I shot EZ on the hopper and then Dana as he tried to come and shot me, I then went down the snake and shot Tony. Tony played smart going from the corner to the back center, however I ran him down and that was it.

Overall the practice was pretty successful and next weekend RC will be playing in the PEV’s PTS 5-man Tourney. Tony, Dana, and Bob all played great and are always welcomed to come and play with the team. Stay tuned for the after tourney update!

Join The Pump Revolution

Have you ever been curious to know what it's like to be part of the RC family? Are you interested in trying out for the Rockin Cocks or RC Revolution? Below is a list of dates and locations where the teams will be practicing. Feel free to come out and try out for one of the best pump teams in the world. Both teams will be playing in the ECPPL and NPPL and a few local smaller events. We are looking for serious players that...

• Can play national events
• Practice multiple times a month
• Have access to transportation
• Have their own equipment (at first this is not necessary but eventually you'll need a pump marker if you plan to play long term with the team)
• Must have a good attitude

• April 10th - Pev's Paintball (Aldie, VA)
• April 24th - Pev's Paintball (Aldie, VA)

A little story about the Pev’s PTS Ice Breaker Tourney

So today was the first RC and RC Rev tourney of the year. The day started early for everybody, myself more so then others due to my working the night before and not getting to sleep till around 2am. The Cville crew left Cville at around 6am for the ride up to Pev’s and got there around 8am. RC Rev arrived a short time later and the teams readied for a day of intense match-ups.

After the captains meeting and the field walking, the teams took the field. Both RC and RC Rev were playing the open class division, which consisted of 12 team’s total. The division was uncapped PSP mode (12.5 BPS vs. our pumps) and featured several Pev’s teams and other Pev’s locals. The field was a little bigger then a normal 3-man field with a dominate snake side. However if you played the so-called d-side right, you could destroy, but mainly the games were decided by who won the snake side or at least it was that way till the finals. One new thing
that was going in place for this event was points didn’t matter, you needed to win and do it quick. The top four teams would move on based on the best winning times average.

RC Rev had the first game and despite making all the bunkers, ended up losing. The next game was an RC game and we had a clean break-out and managed to get a K, but despite everything we loss or so we thought. After the other team hung the flag, they were assed two penalties, one for a hot gun (335FPS, and 314FPS) and a ramping gun penalty (20.5BPS). All said and done, they didn’t have enough bodies left after the penalties were left and we wound up getting the win by default, which gave us a pull, hang and a maximum time win. The next games went by with RC Rev fighting hard, but coming up short. RC on the other hand was 7-0, but that would soon
change. Despite winning against several top teams, we were dealt out first loss by The Flying Biebers (PEV’s/Justice Kids). We were then dealt a second loss by Desolution (aka Justice Kidz), however we turned it back around and we won our last two games.

The last game for both the RC rev and the Rockin Cocks was a pump vs. pump battle. Each team had seen each other play all day and knew all the breakouts for everyone. The game started with clean breaks on both sides. However RC got a K and another after I got into the snake and then Amish and I ran down Scott who was trying to hold down the back center. This double team move could have gone bad, but luckily my paint missed Amish. After the game was over RC was 9-2 and was the 2nd place team going into the semis. RC Rev wound up going 2-9 3-8 for the day.

The semi-finals placed RC against Desolution in a best 2 out of 3. The first game was nowhere near close as Desolution burned all 3 of us off the break, but we had a new breakout for the finals. The game started with all teams making their bunkers and some paint flying back and forth for a few seconds. However we got a K and I got into the snake and the game ended a few seconds after that. Game 2 went Desolution and it was down to a game 3 decision to see who was playing for first. The breakouts were even again, however Desolution seemed to forget about me and I managed to get in the snake again. I crawled down the snake and came up on their side, from I managed to shoot all 3 Desolution players and RC was headed to the finals with a score of 2-1.

The finals were interesting as the number 1 team going into the finals The Flying Biebers lost to the 4th place team Relentless Attack. Both teams were underdogs and everyone was surprised to see a pump team playing for 1st and 2nd in a Open Class Tourney. The first game went quick to Relentless Attack and the second game was the same. We got a early K in game two, however they shot O as he moved out two the corner and then proceeded to split the field and eventually pulled it out for the win. All said and done RC had taken 2nd place overall in the first PTS of the year.

In the end both teams played well. The reffing was great and big shout out to DC Illuminati for the job they did. The field was amazing as always and the event ran very smooth and on time. The paint in combination with are new Stiffi barrel’s was excellent. Hopefully this was a sign of things to come and both teams are looking forward to our trip to New Jersey for the first event of the ECPPL.

First Official Practice...

So today was the first official Rockin’ Cocks/RC Revoultion practice for 2011 at PEV’s paintball in Aldie, VA. The day started off with Lefty's alarm failing to go off and temps in the 30’s instead of the 60’s like the news said. But everything became right once we got to the field. The first signs of the good things to come was the fact that the Rev’s and the two new Rev’s were already there, and the second was when we found out we were gonna get to play for free. The practice format for today was 3-man Race to 2 in anticipation of the upcoming ECPPL event at the end of April.

The first game set Rockin’ Cocks against RC Rev and with two quick points RC was on top, one nothing. But game two saw RC win the first point and drop the next two to RC Rev and the score was now 1-1. Game three and four were quick games and RC came out on top finishing the 3-man practice with a final score of 3-1. The next few games were 4 on 4 mixed teams and some were straight battles and others were not. Some of the big moves in these games came on both sides of the field, which by the way was NPPL Vegas 2010.

The two new Rev’s got an intro to RC paintball, and held out well to say the least. Brendon pulling off two 2 on 1’s to win both games, and Scott holding down the D-side with a few muggings on the 50 Doritos to open a few games up. Probably the highlight of the day was when it was Lefty, Me, Scott and JJ vs. CMCD, Bacon, Justin, and Brendon. I’d been wanting to try this 40 Aztec run off the break on the D-side and Lefty was gonna go D1 on the break. The break out was flawless on both sides. Scott made his bunker, JJ got to the snake corner, I got to my bunker, and Lefty hit D1 popped out and shot CMCD. A second later, he shot the D-side corner and I was already taking off across field towards the snake and ran down the outside of it mugging Bacon who was in D2 and then cyclopesing Justin who was in the snake corner when he tried to look inside. The overall game time was less then 30 seconds and the team finished 4up. Although this was not to say the day was without injury or a few laughs. Poor Justin was in the snake side corner and last alive and he took a straight shot to the “lower parts” and immediately dropped to the ground. Poor Lefty got ear holed as tried to pull a move on the D-side from JJ who was in the snake and needless to say his ear is still ringing and last but not least is Bacon. Poor Bacon played the snake twice and on both occasions he was on the receiving end of one of my many snake muggings, on his last attempt when I ran the inside he took several point blank shots to the hand and needless to say was bleeding everywhere. Sorry buddy! Probably the funniest thing was when Lefty forgot about Brendon, but its way to hard to describe, you had to be there to see it.

Overall the day was great, the weather was about 50 when we finished and no wind to boot. The paint shot great, everyone played hard. The only downside I can think of was the swamp that was the snake and the fact that Lefty never got to get that soaked experience.

Summer Paintball Coming to a Close

Partly sunny skies, 75 degrees and paintballs in the air...what an excellent way to spend a Sunday. Lefty, Hot Karl and I met up with Bacon, French-E, and Munch for a day of rec-ball at Pev's. We started with some time on the turf where we played the 6 of us against semi's for a little while. Sometimes we picked up one other walk-on to make it 7 v 7. Most of the time we were on the winning side of the field...it was awesome.

We headed over to the town field and rock field to do some damage before we wrapped the day up with a little more turf. The champions of the day were Bacon and Lefty. Bacon for almost pulling out a great 2 on 1. He caught one guy making a sloppy bump to bring it to a 1 on 1 where he showed some solid, patient play but it didn't turn out in his favor. Still a solid showing though. Lefty was a rockstar during our second turf session. He was playing back center on a 7 v 7 game. We lost our snake and snake corner and I eventually got blindsided taking out our whole snake side. I thought all was lost but as I walked past Lefty headed to the deadbox he was calling two K's. Seconds later another K, then another. They were dropping like flies at the mighty pump hand of Lefty Blanks. It came down to a 2 on 2. Lefty told Zak to cross it up and they were able to clean up and win the game.

Everyone played well...the communication was top notch and we had the right mix of conservative and aggressive play. I got a chance to try out my new Exalt Baller pants and after a few more days of play I'll be putting up a full review.

Play Date at Zwackerz

RC was scheduled to play some head to head ball with the Z-Crew but it didn't quite play out as expected. I think the AM rain deterred one or two members of the Z-Crew but we mixed in and played some games and ran a few drills. By the afternoon the rain gave way to sunshine and all in all it turned out to be an excellent day of paintball.

On a related note, the fields at Zwackerz have really started to fill out. The speedball field has a good number of quality bunkers (read they stay inflated) and while not laid out in the typical speedball fashion (mirrored with a proper snake) the lanes and bumps are still quite playable. Dennis has also done a good job of tying the brush field in with the speedball field for a consistent "Huge Field" that can be played quite effectively. After the USPL, I suspect we'll be checking out Zwackerz again.

Oh, I almost forgot!

We've started a new tradition since Wimpy went upside down. For each day of play, we pass the mascot (Rocky Cockerson) on to the MVP for the day. The MVP must then choose the next recipient next time we play. Going into Sunday, Owen held Rocky for destroying the D side with C-Robb at KPS. Today, Rocky gets passed on to UA Karl, for 1) the highest confirmed K count for the day (including and entire team elimination) and 2) finally getting some damn elbow pads.

Hastings Reppin' RC

I don't know how this one slipped through the cracks...I think these pics were taken before we got the blog up and running. A while back Wimpy and I took a drive up to Pevs for some rec play. I think that's the day we ran into a couple of fellow pumpers who became two key members in the RC Revolution. Anyway, Wimpy had the idea to make Greg an RC jersey and autograph it for him. Wimpy figured people were always askin Greg for time and autographs, so we'd give him some shwag. We had a great time and even hung around to get our likenesses captured for the upcoming GH game. I don't know if the Rockin Cocks, Spoon, Wimpy or any pump guns will be in the game but we had a great time meeting Greg.

Now that was a good day of paintball!

It was RC's X-ball debut. Even though it was only a practice, it was our first time playing the format. We did have a slight advantage in that we could carry all of the paint and air we would need for 5 games onto the field at once. We did have to wipe old hits between games and we did pod up a couple of times but we were ready to rock (and cock) when the buzzer went off.

It pretty much rained all day making for a rough time seeing the paint and keeping the equipment clean but we still played some solid paintball and came out 1-1 in our two matches. We didn't win any games the first match, but we all played really well and every point was won with only one or two bodies. We weren't able to bounce back from one game where we were up by several bodies but a quick shift in momentum put us on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

Match 2 was a different story. We dropped the first point but responded promptly with a point of our own. We traded points again making the match score 2-2. It was race to 3 so this was the one that counted. It was a nail-biter with each team trading G's. There were some really close calls but in the end C-rob and Owen pulled out the last point.

After 2 matches and 4 hours of rain, we were pretty much done. O-face snuggled up with Rocky while Amish spent some quality time with a case of Bronze. It was a tough day...the guys were getting some well deserved rest on the way home.

Great Day at the Training Grounds

I am wiped out after countless games of paintball on the Training Grounds today. C-Robb, O-face, old man Wimpy, Kirby and UA Carl were among the regulars with K-Robb, and some local law enforcement rounding out the teams.

It was K-Robb's first time on the field after a long hiatus and her first day out with a pump. She played like a champ and we are all looking forward to being out on the field with her as she gets more gun time. This could be the beginning of an all female RC squad...but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The weather could not have been better and the playing was excellent. It was nice to be on the field with an atmosphere a bit more relaxed than the recent tournaments. Here are a few pics...
